The rest of Unit 3: Trigonometry

The unit is complete. Now we review for the test of the whole thing. Think about which quizzes were the most difficult for you and make sure you work to understand that material for the test. Remember that I want you to understand so ask for help when you need it.

1/16  Martin Luther King Day, no school
1/18  Review 3.1  p.76-77
1/19  Review 3.2  p.78-79
1/20  Review 3.3  p.80-81

1/23  Complete Review 3.4  p.82-83 before class for the requiz of 3.4
1/25  Mixed Practice
1/26  Test of Trigonometry (Unit 3)

The term ends on 1/20. We will discuss whether the test will count for term 2 or term 3.

3.4 Sinusoids

Sinusoids are one of the most common applications trig functions. We will spend all of the time leading up to vacation and then a few days afterwards on this section before the quiz. The quiz is followed by a huge review and a test of the whole unit.

1/12  Half Day B A G F
1/13  Quiz of 3.4 Sinusoids

3.3 The Unit Circle

We begin looking at trig when it is not specifically built using triangles. We are also going to learn about radians, a more "metric" way of giving the measure of an angle than degrees. Radians are what most of advanced math and science use.

12/05  The Unit Circle  p.37-40
12/07  The Unit Circle Computer Lab p.41-44
12/08  Day 2 of the Unit Circle Computer Lab p.41-44
12/09  Radians  p.45-48
12/12  Applications of Radians  p.49-52

12/14  Radians with Trig Functions, Review  p.53-54
12/15  3.3 Quiz

Looking ahead:
12/24 - 1/4 Christmas Break
1/3 Parent Conferences

Unit 3 - Trigonometry

Since Trigonometry is part of the name of the course, you know that this unit is important. We start with ratios and move to periodic functions. What that last sentence means will become clear as we move through the material. This is a long unit with quizzes after each section and then a big test at the end.

Section 3.1 Right Triangle Trig
11/02 Triangle Activity and a Review of the Pythagorean Theorem
11/03 Finish the Triangle Activity and identify types of triangles from side lengths

Unit 2: Transformations

Transformation is a method of changing our basic functions. By approaching any function as a modified basic function, it is much easier to work with - we know what the graph looks like and what values are likely and/or valid.

This is a fairly quick unit. The dates below may be ambitious or they may be too slow. I will adjust as we go along. This is my proposal for right now.

10/13 Mini-Cooper Exploration pp.2-7
10/14 Check for Understanding pp.8-10 and Single Transformations p.11-13

10/17 Numerical Function Transformations, Summary, Double Transformations pp.14-18
10/19 Practice pp.20-23
10/20 Domain & Range Transformations and Extra Practice pp.24-28
10/21 Extra Practice pp.29-32

10/24 Computer Lab and Follow-up pp.33-38
10/26 Practice p.39-41
