Unit 4: Systems and Matrices

This unit starts with a review of linear systems and then moves to explore matrices - a branch of mathematics that is only about 150 year old (new!) and has become ever more useful as computers and calculators get smaller and faster. We will look at many real applications so you can see that this is math that you can use to solve real problems right now!

1/27 Start 4.1: Graphical solutions of Linear Systems, p.2-6
1/30 Substitution and Elimination solutions of Linear Systems, p.7-9, p.11
2/01 Quick Quiz of Solution Methods; Modeling p.12-13
2/02 Start 4.2: Intro to Matrices p.14-17
2/03 Matrix Multiplication p.18-20

2/06 Doing matrices on the calculator p.21-23
2/08 Matrix word problems (use the calculator!) p.24-29
2/09 Solving systems using matrices, method 1 (rref) p.31 and 30(again)
2/10 Solving systems using matrices, method 2 (inverse key) p.32 and 30(again)

2/13 Review sections 4.1 and 4.2
2/15 Quiz of 4.1 and 4.2 (Basic matrix manipulation and solving systems 5 ways)
